Maddalena, Pescatrice di Anime, 2018
Video performance 3:35

Maddalena, Pescatrice di Anime is a reimagining of the meaning of the story of Mary Magdalene, taking a mythical and ritualistic approach to investigating the transformational power of love. Guided by the determination of their mentor who attends to their misunderstandings about life, three young women both witness and participate in a feminist baptism that signifies spiritual rebirth. While their mentor enters the waters of renewal, the women experience a gap of longing, suggesting that the path to enlightenment requires patience and endurance.

Maddalena, Pescatrice di Anime was first included within La Certezza e il Dubbio, a collaborative performance in artperformingfestival, Ed. II, Naples, Italy, in 2017 at TRAM. This new version, revised after Mangiacpara’s death in 2018, showed in Art Self Energy at Forte Marghera from April 27 to May 12, 2019 in Venice, Italy, in artperformingfestival ed IV.
