Exhibited in Feminist to the Core at Salonlb in Chicago, IL
Curated by Curators Gone Rogue

Recalling memories of her grandmother’s crocheted quilts, Sykes sourced this familial history to create repetitive, colorful forms. An homage to granny squares, Knit One, Purl Two was first curated in the exhibition Feminist to the Core, during which a discussion between Sykes and the curator solidified the piece’s role as a nod to craft activity—labor which has been historically undervalued and underrepresented in the rarified space of the gallery. Knit One, Purl Two questions assumptions about women’s utilitarian productions.
