Part III of the trilogy Sister Rituals created in collaboration with Kim Dotty Hachmann, Mud explores the frustration, anonymity, and exhaustion of two female superheroes. Playfully dressed for action in neon bodysuits and tutus, they futilely rise up against monolithic entities, symbolized by enormous city skyscrapers. They leave their urban exploits, returning to nature’s healing powers, to care for themselves and each other and to recover from the stresses of their self appointed superhero roles. The ritual massaging of mud into flesh garnered from the earth, their unembarrassed nudity and erotic touch, filmed in soft light and neutral tones, contrast with the saturated chroma and bleached light of the city, to both question and suggest where real power comes from.
